It could happen to anyone. Even to you. You go to a party, meet friends, laugh, and have a whale of a time. Then it is time to go back home. You stumble to your car, get behind the wheel. You tell yourself you are not drunk, just pleasantly high. After all, you have had just a few drinks. It would take a lot more than that to get you smashed.

You couldn’t be more wrong.

Alcohol affects you in a way that changes your depth perception, judgement, as well as vital motor skills needed to drive safely. It is very easy to think you are driving normally when actually you are not.

Consider this:

* A recent survey found that metropolitan cities such as Mumbai and Delhi witness the highest number of drunk-driving cases in the country. That’s where most of the party goers live.

* It is estimated that the prosecution rate for drunk-driving has gone up 16 times in the past five years. Chances of your encountering a police team armed with a breath-analyser are excellent.

* Drunk-driving is the foremost cause of fatalities in road accidents. And India has the highest number of road mishaps in the world. Incidentally, this number is predicted to increase every year.
